Qatar Science Leadership Program
What is Qatar Science Leadership Program?
Qatar Science Leadership Program (QSLP) is a minimum two-year career development program for recent science graduates. It aims to address the growing need for highly qualified research personnel, both in Qatar and the region.
Qatar Foundation (QF) sponsors successful applicants, arranging internships with partner research organizations with the offer of a permanent position after successful completion of the Program. QF multi-partner model offers graduates unrivalled experience across a wide range of world-class institutions. For more information please visit: http://www.qf-research-division.org/qslp/
Critical skills and insight
QSLP is principally aimed at recent Qatari science graduates holding a Bachelor or Master degree, although QF will consider other applicants. The training program is designed to provide the critical skills and insight needed for science and research activities.
QSLP’s twin-track training prepares graduates for a career path either as a research scientist or a research manager.
Research Management Track
The research management track involves a two-year program that allows trainees to gain hands-on experience of research administration.
Trainees spend up to six months in a rotation of placements. Depending on the availability of positions, trainees may be placed within QF’s Research Division or within partner organizations.
Areas of training include evaluating scientific research proposals, monitoring and reporting and science funding and promotion.
Research Scientist Track
The Research Scientist Track is tailored to graduates adept at critical thinking and problem solving and with an interest in pursuing a career in technical research and its applications. The duration of the Research Scientist Track is between two and four years.
Graduates focus on an area of scientific investigation of strategic importance to the needs of Qatar and the region. All trainees pursue a postgraduate science Masters, PhD or equivalent research doctorate at internationally recognized partner institutions.
Focus on Qatar
Focus areas must correspond to Qatar’s national needs and the future plans of QF’s research centers. Several areas have been prioritized for research, including the biomedical fields of genomics, proteomics, stem cells, applied nanotechnology and molecular imaging. Other areas of focus are energy, environment, computing and multidisciplinary research.
