
29/05/09: Qatar Symphony impresses audience at Konzerthaus - Berlin
Berlin, 29 May, 2009 - Following its past two successful appearances in Istanbul and Madrid, Qatar Symphony was performed today to a German audience of approximately 1500 in the world-renowned Konzerthaus in Berlin. The concert was attended by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation and many prominent figures including the former Chancellor of Germany, Mr Gerhard Schrodder.
The event was organized by Qatar Foundation in cooperation with German Near and Middle East Association (NUMOV).
Qatar Symphony is an initiative of Qatar Foundation which narrates the transformation of Qatar from a country depending on pearl diving to a developed nation with an ambitious vision for the future. It is composed by the renowned musician, Dr Salem Abdul Karem, who also was the conductor of tonight's performance.
The international tour of Qatar Symphony aims to connect the country's rich heritage with global audiences through music. It takes the listeners through the various stages of development of Qatar from the times of pearl diving to the discovery of oil and finally culminates with the beginning of the knowledge-based society.
Konzerthaus in Berlin is one of the world's most important historic musical halls. It was established in 1821 but it was destroyed during World War II. However, it had undergone reconstruction to reopen in 1984. It is where Beethoven premiered his infamous 9th symphony to a German audience. Other famous composers of the 19th century preformed there including Mozert, Paganini and Liszt.
