Doha, 27 October, 2008 - The new building of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar was the site of this year's "Discover Education City," public exhibition. The event was well attended with over 900 guests present including: parents, students and other community members who took the opportunity to get informed about university degree programs, scholarship options and student life.
During the event Dr Fathy Saoud, President of Qatar Foundation welcomed the guest visitors and gave an overview of the world-class education opportunities under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation.
Education City universities have been ranked in the top 10% of educational institutions according to the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). The survey asked first-year and graduating students in the US and Canada in spring 2008 for their assessments of a number of aspects of university life: the level of academic challenge they experience; involvement in practical and collaborative learning; the quality of their interactions with faculty members; opportunities to learn both in the classroom and outside; and the degree of support available on campus.
Dr Dennis Roberts, Assistant Vice President - Education at Qatar Foundation commented on the results of the survey: "We consider these results as evidence of the remarkable quality of the education we offer. Everyone is invited to our event this evening to learn about the world-class university programs at Education City."
During the event, admission counselors, faculty members and current students engaged the visitors and gave them insight into the undergraduate programs available at the six universities located in Education City. In addition, the Academic Bridge Program (ABP) showcased its pre-university program. Last year, every single graduate from ABP was able to obtain admission at a university in Qatar or abroad.
Undergraduate programs available at Education City for the upcoming academic year include: design, medicine, business, computer science, international affairs, engineering, journalism and communications.
