Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQatar) was the first university to come to Education City in 1998, and celebrated its seventh graduation in 2008.

VCUQatar offers the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design, Graphic Design or Interior Design.

Degree programs foster creativity and a passion for design by encouraging the application of ideas while respecting the regional heritage. The learning environment at the university allows for one-to-one feedback from faculty members and allows for a combination of research and hands-on design projects.

Graduates have helped build up the creative industries in Qatar which has become an important element in the country's new knowledge-based economy.

The campus regularly hosts and organizes conferences, exhibitions and gallery events, as well as an annual fashion design show and a design competition for high school students. These have contributed significantly to Qatar's cultural calendar.

Virginia Commonwealth University is located in Richmond, Virginia, and its School of the Arts is one of the US's largest and most highly ranked design schools.
