GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF FOREIGN SERVICE IN QATAR

The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Qatar) is a branch of the Edmund A Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

SFS-Qatar currently offers a four-year liberal arts curriculum, with a major in International Politics, leading to a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree. Studies cover government, economics, literature, philosophy and theology, preparing graduates for leading positions in the diplomatic arena, international business, academia, and the non-profit sector. SFS-Qatar accepted its first students in 2005.

As Qatar's influence in the Middle East region and the world increases, it has an increasing need for people with a deep understanding of international politics.

The Center for International and Regional Studies at SFS-Qatar fosters original research, especially on the Gulf region and the Middle East. It is devoted to the academic study of regional and international issues through dialogue and exchange of ideas, research and scholarship, and engagement with scholars, opinion makers, practitioners, and activists. It conducts original research, as well as holds a variety of outreach programs for the local community.

The SFS-Qatar campus is currently housed in the Liberal Arts and Science Building (LAS) at Education City. Its own building, to open by the end of the current decade, has been designed by Mexican architects Legorreta & Legoretta.

Founded in 1789, Georgetown University is America's oldest Catholic and Jesuit University. It was the first university in the country to develop a liberal arts undergraduate program focused on international affairs and approached from an interdisciplinary perspective, and it remains one of the worlds most renowned.
