FUTURE PROJECTS

Qatar Foundation is an organization on the move, and fresh projects regularly emerge that will advance the organization's broad mission in novel ways. Each of them contributes in one way or more to the Foundation's goals of education, scientific research and community development, and often they are accompanied by an exciting architectural design and construction project.

Qatar National Convention Center

  • The Qatar National Convention Center will be a venue for conferences, exhibitions and cultural events. Designed by Arata Isozaki, it will contain a 2,500-seat auditorium, a conference hall for up to 4,000 delegates, an exhibition floor, and a number of smaller rooms suitable for performances and meetings. This architectural showpiece will feature a tree-like facade that resembles the Sidra tree, the emblem of Qatar Foundation.

Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra

  • Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra was created to enhance community and culture within Qatar and throughout the region, while bringing a message of peace to the world via the union of eastern and western music. By instilling music culture locally and internationally, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will build bridges through the presentation of a unique combination of Arabic and Western music that speaks purely to the soul; the only language capable of creating an environment of peace and love.
  • The word philharmonic's roots are Greek in origin and it is composed of two words: Phil which means love or friend; and harmony which means compatibility. The word philharmonic also refers to the love of or devotion to music, and was first used at the beginning of the nineteenth century when western orchestras were created to perform for the public, versus being confined solely for the enjoyment of the upper classes.
  • Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra is composed of 101 musicians playing various instruments, including percussion, stringed, wind and keyboard instruments, who represent thirty nationalities and were chosen from among more than 3000 applications. Catering to musicians interested in various branches of the music field, including composers, distributers, solo players, and conductors, the orchestra shares Qatar Foundation's principle belief that a nation's greatest resource is the potential of its people. It is by enhancing cultural awareness among its audiences and developing its people that the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra seeks to promote greater understanding in Qatar and around the globe.
  • With plans to offer regular performances locally throughout the season and tour the world to showcase the mission of Qatar, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will simultaneously encourage all the citizens of the world to embrace this distinct blend of music, while conducting its most important mission to spread the message of peace, harmony and unison.
