HOUSING LOTTERY
Understanding the Housing Lottery and important dates:-
- Spring Semester - The housing lottery takes place early in the spring semester and is for students who currently live on campus and would like to reserve a room for the following academic year.
- 1 February 2009 - All students intending to return to the residence halls for the following academic year must fill out the housing application for returning students (available on the website or SB-2 front desk) and turn it in to the assignments office no later than 1 February 2009. A completed application must have been signed by the student's branch campus. (See 3 May 2009 and 14 June 2009 below.)
- Residence Fee - By 3 May 2009 students must pay a QR1000 reservation fee to reserve and guarantee their chosen residence hall room for the next academic year. This reservation fee is refundable until 14 June 2009.
- Students who have returned a completed housing application by 1 February 2009 will be assigned a random lottery number based on the number of completed credits from their institution (NOT including credits when enrolled for spring term). Students with seniority will receive a higher priority lottery number.
- 15/16 February 2009 - 'Squatting' in the rooms takes place on 15 February 2009 (for male residents) and 16 February 2009 (for female residents), before the general lottery for students who wish to switch rooms.
- 'Squat' - Students who intend to remain in their current room for the next academic year, must have each bed space in the room "filled" to retain or 'squat' the room.
- Before the 'Squat' night, students with insufficient roommates for the assigned bed spaces must find replacements before the 'squat' night takes place.
- If residents are unable to find enough roommates in the squat to retain the room, then the room automatically goes into the general housing lottery for any eligible student(s) to choose.
- 17 February 2009 - Social night held for all residents who did not squat their room, to find potential roommates for the lottery.
- 18/19 February 2009 - General Housing Lottery. After students have had a chance to "squat" their rooms, the general housing lottery takes place on 18 February 2009 (for female residents) and 19 February 2009 (for male residents). On this date each student is assigned a lottery number, students who are not ""squatting"" their rooms, will have a chance to choose a new room, with the roommate of their choice. Students, who want to live together, take part in the lottery according to the roommate with the LOWEST lottery number.
- Students must be present to take part in the housing lottery. However, if for some reason they are unavailable, they must complete a proxy form to send with their proxy to the housing lottery or room squat to indicate that the proxy may make housing decisions for them. A student may serve as a proxy for one other student only, and not for multiple students.
- 3 May 2009 - Students must each pay QR1000 reservation fee to reserve & guarantee their chosen residence hall room for the next academic year.
- 14 June 2009 -The reservation fee is refundable until this date and by this date any cancellations must be received in writing, (emails to housing@qf.org.qa with a carbon copy to fabujazer@qf.org.qa are acceptable), in order to be eligible for the refund of the QR1000 reservation fee. The QR reservation fee may not be refunded after this date.
