
Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) is the first American university to offer its MD degree overseas. Part of Weill Cornell Medical College, one of the top-ranked clinical and biomedical research centers in the US, WCMC-Q shares its mission of excellence in education, patient care and research.
WCMC-Q is the first medical school in Qatar and a pioneer of coeducation at university level.
The Medical College offers an integrated program of pre-medical and medical studies, with teaching by Cornell and Weill Cornell faculty. There are separate admissions processes for the Pre-medical and Medical Programs.
With an emphasis on students as adult learners, the development of skills of critical analysis and problem-solving, collaborative work in groups and an early introduction to patient care, WCMC-Q is preparing physicians, and citizens, in Qatar and the region for a future of lifelong learning, and for successful careers as members of healthcare and biomedical research teams.
Working with the National Health Authority and Qatar Foundation, WCMC-Q is actively contributing to the health of the community. The Medical College is also assisting with planning Qatar Foundation's Sidra Medical and Research Center which will become the primary teaching hospital for the Medical College; together, they are set to form an academic medical center of international standing.
The biomedical research program, to be conducted with partners in Qatar, will contribute significantly to establishing the nation's future research capability. It is designed to build research and training capacity, and to carry out specific projects, with a focus on genetic and molecular medicine, and women's and children's health.
