Qatar Foundation was founded under the guidance and vision of Qatar’s ruling family led by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar. The values and mission of the Foundation are firmly based on enhancing the nation of Qatar. Guided by the principle that a nation's greatest resource is the potential of its people, Qatar Foundation aims to develop that potential through a network of centers devoted to progressive education, research and community welfare. The activities of the Foundation are deeply associated with Qatari culture. Qatar Foundation and its partner organizations seek to preserve the identity of Qatar while encouraging growth and prosperity into the future.
The Qatar Foundation is a not-for-profit organization. The corporate joint ventures undertaken by the Foundation ensure the future viability of many of the projects at Education City. The Qatar Foundation is helping future proof the organization by becoming commercially self-sustaining.
The earliest initiatives of the Qatar Foundation were in the fields of health and community service. The Foundation’s Community pillar aims to improve the quality of life of Qataris and citizens of the region. Through health programs and dedicated community development organizations Qatar Foundation is making real improvements to the community in Qatar and abroad.
As of academic year 2007-2008, there were a total of 1124 students 51% Qatari and 49% international. The gender breakdown of the students is 60% female, 40% male. The students studying at Education City come from wide ranging backgrounds from USA, UK, Australia, France, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, India, Iran, Turkey and Korea.
Education City’s goal is to provide world-class university opportunities in Qatar. The six campuses at Education City are campuses of some of the most prestigious universities in the United States offering degrees across major study areas. Qatar Foundation plans to expand the options for students wishing to study at Education City by continue to partner with high-quality institutions. Research is an essential component in Qatar Foundation's strategy to make Education City a world-class center for innovative education. By offering state-of-the-art facilities and a unique collaborative environment, the Foundation hopes to attract some of the world's best minds and offer them opportunities to tackle challenging, real-world problems.
Currently major research programs are underway in the area of diabetes and biological studies through the Foundation’s medical research arm, the National Research Fund. While the Qatar Science and Technology Park is boasting some of the world’s largest brands like Microsoft, Exxon Mobile, Cisco and Qatar Petroleum who are choosing to conduct their significant research and development in Doha

Education City is being built as the future for education in Qatar. Since the first class was admitted ten years ago Education City has grown year on year. Substantial growth of the region is expected to drive more and more students to Education City.
The Qatar Foundation recognizes that the future of the country and indeed the world rests with children. The bulk of the activities of the Foundation are directed towards the education, development, health and wellbeing of children. Currently in addition to education activities the Qatar Foundation is involved in family studies and development, social development, children’s education through its own television station and health promotion specifically targeting women and children.
The Financial Aid Office performs a needs analysis of the information provided in the financial aid application completed by a student and/or his/her family. A financial aid loan package is then calculated based on a thorough assessment of the student's family's income and assets versus expenditure and loans. The Financial Aid Committee reviews and approves the financial aid loans.
