The enrichment of human capital that is necessary for Qatar's transformation depends to a large extent upon fostering a research culture. This is an environment that encourages the pursuit of new knowledge, conducts scientific research and develops new technologies.
The development of this research environment is being led by Qatar Foundation's Research Division and its partners, who are working hand in hand to build Qatar's innovation and technology capacity, and are uncovering solutions to national challenges in health, climate change, clean energy and other fields.
Each of the Education City universities has a research element, and the SIDRA Medical and Research Center will be a cutting-edge research facility, as well as a clinical care provider and a medical training institution.
The commercialization of new knowledge is central to Qatar's plans, and this is being championed by Qatar Science and Technology Park which provides support programs to enable research and business ventures to materialize in the marketplace.
The Qatar National Research Fund is a catalyst for change in the country. It assesses research proposals from around the world that will advance human knowledge and benefit the State of Qatar.
Qatar Foundation's research strengths will be organized around core platforms of medicine, biotechnology, information and communication technologies, environmental sciences, molecular sciences and nanotechnology.
QSTP is a research and development hub and Qatar's first free trade zone. Over $300 million has been invested to create a world class facility. Tenants include ExxonMobil, Shell, Total, Rolls-Royce, EADS and Microsoft .
