Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing
What is Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing?
At BQFP we translate and publish the best international children’s books so that children in the Arab world can enjoy them, too, for the first time.
Managing Director, BQFP
A unique venture between Qatar Foundation and Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP) focuses on works of fiction and non-fiction as well as reference, educational and academic books.
Works are written both in the original Arabic and in English, with high quality translations produced and distributed to English and Arabic audiences of all ages.
Vibrant literary culture in Qatar and the region
By creating a local publishing industry, BQFP is creating a vibrant literary culture in Qatar and the region, with a focus on nurturing Arabic culture through literature. Its rich program of creative writing workshops helps to discover and develop new literary talent.
BQFP also arranges internships in Doha and Bloomsbury, London, resulting in a unique transfer of publishing skills.
International collaborations
Through collaboration with local and international institutions, BQFP has introduced World Book Day Qatar, an international celebration of books intended to promote enjoyment of reading through all ages in Qatar.
BQFP has also helped to pioneer the publication of dual-language editions of popular children’s books – including Julia Donaldson’s highly acclaimed bestselling rhyming tale, The Gruffalo.
BQFP is now working on bringing more new adult and children’s titles to bookshelves across the world.

- During BQFP’s first School Read-a-thon in 2010, more than 320 schoolchildren across Qatar read 2,300 books, amounting to a total of 85,000 pages. This has now become a popular annual event.
